Emma Howie has over a decade of experience as an NHS surgeon, and is a researcher completing a PhD in medical informatics at the University of Edinburgh. Her research focuses on cognitive load and performance: how physiological data can be used to measure, and improve, what happens in high-pressure environments in real time. She has extensive experience with wearable technology and the data it produces, across her own work and collaborations in the UK and the United States.

Metriqx applies that methodology commercially. The work of establishing whether a physiological signal is valid, whether the metric built on it holds, and whether it survives the decision it informs is the same whether the setting is an operating theatre or an elite training environment. Only the consequences differ.

Health and high-performance settings, such as elite sport, are where Metriqx is starting. The framework itself is domain-agnostic, because the ways measurement technology fails are shared across them.
